How to see

it has been a while since my last post.
starting to write is as hard as starting to draw (for me :)).

i have been re-read, re-think, and gather many resources on drawing process lately. one of my favorite book is drawing on the right side of the brain by Betty Edward. Betty mention about a point in her book that the most important thing for an artist is about 'how to see'.

It is about listen to your eyes, not your brain.

This is true, because in fact we often listen to our brain. " No, this is a square box, it has to be straight, equal 4 sides." we fail to see as our eyes see, the square is in perspective, then it is normal to have some distorted sides. if we keep listen to our brain instead of our eyes, then we can never able to draw.

while pondering on this topic, i realize that we often do the same thing in life. In our depraved world, we tend to follow our sinful desire which is very deceiving. Our perspective is damaged, the way we think is not in the right position anymore. The remedy is, we should follow the bible, we should listen to the Word which is light to our path, we should put on the Words of God as our glasses so we can see things clearly, the way it is, as God ordained.

Reuse & Reduce

Sabun cuci, sabun mandi, detergen, sudah termasuk keperluan sehari-hari. Biasanya kita beli kemasan refill supaya lebih hemat. Nah, sekarang bukan cuma bisa hemat, kita juga bisa mengurangi sampah plastik! Hal inilah yang dilakukan oleh the soap dispensary konsep tokonya menjual segala jenis sabun, pembersih yang bisa diisi ulang dengan botol bekas kita.

Dari konsep 3R(Reuse, Reduce, Recycle), The Soap Dispensary menekankan 2R yang pertama yaitu Reuse dan Reduce; konsep yang patut diacungkan jempol untuk perpaduan bisnis sambil menjaga kesehatan lingkungan kita.

Hong Kong

it's 1 month already since my visit to HK (HongKong)- a city where the people hv the same pace: FAST! haha.. ya..that's true! I really admire HK for the people; they live like tomorrow is the end of the world, so evrything is so efficient, effective, fast, rush, and so on..(you can name evrything to show speed!)


DIM SUM is the most popular breakfast there. Many old people like dim sum.


Many parks and playground around apartments all over the city.

very ordered, easy & cheap transportation system.
well designed airport.
fun HK disneyland.

Lemper

Bila kamu adalah seorang pedagang lemper. Lemper yang kamu jual paling terkenal sekecamatan, sering dijadikan ole-ole dan nikmaaat sekali! lemper kamu dijual Rp. 10.000/biji. Suatu hari, muncul saingan yang cukup kompetitif. Lempernya juga enak, terlebih lagi harganya lebih murah, cuman Rp. 7.000/biji.

What would you do?

Menurunkan harga lempermu menjadi Rp. 6.000 supaya bisa bersaing? ataukah kamu akan tetap bertahan dengan lempermu yang Rp. 10.000? (kemungkinannya kamu akan kehilangan pelanggan lo..)

Kalau kamu memilih untuk bersaing dengan menurunkan harga, pertanyaan selanjutnya adalah: How low can you go? mau ikut permainan itu?

Karate Kid

Sapa pernah nonton karate kid (2010)? Film2 Jackie Chan selalu oke untuk ditonton.
Ada satu scene di film itu yang membuatku kagum; yaitu waktu awal pelajaran kungfu, Xiao Dre diminta untuk latihan memakai, membuka, menggantungkan dan membuang jaketnya.

beberapa insight yang kudapat yaitu:
pertama, sebagai murid kehidupan, seringkali kita juga kayak Dre, kita minta diajari 'kungfu'; kita minta kesabaran, kasih, ketekunan, dsb. Tetapi saat sang guru memberi pelajaran, kita berlagak sudah tahu, berlagak sudah menguasai. "I've done it 1000 times". Barulah kemudian mengerti kalau latihan sederhana: memakai-membuka-menggantung jaket itu, bertujuan menguatkan otot-ototnya. That's the basic of kungfu! Kita terlalu kecil untuk mengerti segala hal-hal 'remeh' yang Dia ijinkan terjadi dalam hidup kita; bahwa semua hal remeh itu akan membuat kita sabar, kasih & tekun.

kedua, betapa menakjubkan mengetahui kalo nilai-nilai kungfu itu ada dalam kehidupan sehari-hari kita. Dari praktek sederhana memakai jaket, attitude kepada orangtua, dsb. Aku mengagumi bagaimana sang guru begitu mendalami kungfu sampai dalam praktek sehari-hari. Dia menghidupi kungfu! Kungfu ga sekedar belajar silat, untuk membela diri saat menghadapi musuh saja.
Sama halnya dengan iman kita, pengetahuan kita, harusnya belajar dari sang guru yang menerapkannya dalam hidup. Bahkan sampai hal-hal kecil dalam hidup. Dengan begitu, barulah kita disebut menghidupi iman kita. Iman bukan cuma slogan atau falsafah atau teori saja. We need to live it!

my conviction

today, i come to a point to discern, what is my conviction.
working with a new client, bring me new things to learn.

at my former office, they will not accept job for promoting cigarettes. it is their conviction. because, everybody knows tat cigarettes is doing no good to our health. so why we help them promote it?

today, i have a client who opens a pub and selling beer as one of their main menu.
and the big thing is they are going to held a beer competition! what shall i do?

me: drinking beer is okay. in a measured amount, it is good for your body. just don't over drink it. then you will get drunk.

another me: still, there is a chance people will get drunk. after drunk, many evil things can follow..

me: ya.. it's their choice. they know their own body. everybody has to take responsibility with their own body. why sud i care?

another me: why then, you are helping them to promote the event, while you know for sure, there will be chances that they will get drunk?

me: .....

another me: .....

me: oh.. it's just a game!

another me: oya?

me: then what should i do? i already step in it. what should i do?

What's wrong?

tadi barusan rumah g kedatangan tamu. keluarga sepupu yang uda lama ga datang. let's just call her auntie. auntie g barusan percaya Yesus beberapa tahun terakhir and now, she can preach to us. How amazing! ga percaya gimana Tuhan pake mulutnya, hidupnya untuk berbicara kepada orang banyak. dan dia tidak malu menunjukkan imannya. momen paling berkesan adalah saat trakhir sebelum dia mo pulang, dia mencoba menghafalkan satu kalimat encouragement kepada mama g. yang mana, dia hapalkan dengan cukup susah payah..( namanya juga uda tua dan suka lupa )tapi dia tidak menyerah, satu kata demi satu kata dia ucapkan sampe selesai...

seeing tat, i really, really thank God. How amazing is the work of Holy Spirit. Dia juga cerita gimana waktu jaga toko, sering banget ketemu orang dan bisa bercerita tentang Yesus kepada pelanggannya.. Again, a WOW..

then, from her, i get 1 insight, being a Christian is not about: "jip kau"/ masuk agama/ attending a religion. it is a BELIEF! so, u have to BELIEVE! Believe in Jesus Christ of course.

And i m thinking about myself, how come i rarely got a chance like tat?? what's wrong? i love to tell the gospel too, but seems like i haven't get any chance. what's wrong?
